The Titleist Fitting Network
A 13 year old male junior golfer may be able to transition easily to the Titleist standard clubs if they have the strength and height of an adult, enabling them to consistently hit 270 yard drives. Titleist has a highly skilled team of fitters who use the most advanced tools to help players optimize their driver performance, make iron play more precisely, dial in their wedges and fine-tune set compositions.
For junior golfers who cannot transition to the standard club lengths, Titleist are able to custom fit their clubs for the advanced 10 year old junior golfer, boy and girl, over 60” tall who has a swing speed greater than 80mph. Titleist are unable to fit children who are shorter than 60” and there are currently no plans to create golf clubs for the very youngest golfers.
The best way to truly appreciate the high performance value of Titleist golf clubs, achieve total confidence on every shot and shoot lower scores, is to experience a Titleist club fitting for yourself. Titleist is focused on helping serious golfers play better. Being expertly fit for your golf equipment will help improve your game. The Titleist Fitting Network offers a range of fitting experiences, each delivering expert advice and equipment recommendations. The Titleist website allows you to select fitting locations with the tools and expertise to fit the next generation of Titleist golfers.
When a junior golfer is able to hit a long drive, the U.S. Kids Golf Tour Series or other similar high specification junior clubs have too much flex and become whippy. The timing of the transition to adult clubs is important as putting an advanced junior into adult club heads too soon costs a junior a lot of distance as a result of the stiffer shaft and heavy head. Whilst shortening flex shafts makes them stiffer, thus losing distance, the positive is that accuracy increases. Although the shorter lengths are playable, they are out of the normal parameters for Titleist, but they can be built to work for children as young as 10 years old, depending on their ability.
When customising clubs for the junior player, it is the proper length, rather than the swing weight that needs modification.
The Titleist AP1 7 iron shaft at 35.75” can be cut to -1” which would suit an advanced teen 61”-64” tall, with the option for the player at 60” tall to choke down without loss of performance.
Drivers can be shortened 2” without loss of performance as can the fairway shafts. Hybrids and Irons can only be shortened to a maximum of 0.5” or 1” depending on the model and all the Vosey design wedges can be shortened by 1”.
Irons custom-fitted for young teens are usually flattened, gradually being straightened as the teen grows.
If you do not know the length and lie for the youth’s new clubs, Titleist recommends a custom fit-ting and can help you locate a recommended fitter in your area. There is a charge for fittings, but there may have a reduced rate for juniors.
To be custom-fit by Titleist experts for drivers, fairways, hybrids, irons and wedges takes about 3+ hours. There is no putter fitting available. The fittings can be done in categories: drivers/fairways are one, hybrids/irons are another, wedges are a third and each takes one hour.
Titleist junior golf club reviews are always positive. One reviewer who took his 13 year old son to a Titleist fitting center wrote:
“I can’t say enough good things about them…. the bottom line is if you want the confidence you have the correctly configured equipment in your hands you should take advice from the people whom fit Titleist clubs day in and day out. You will be surprised at the infinite number of combinations, but they will quickly home in on the right specification.”
